La Leche League of Newton, MA
About La Leche League
La Leche League is an international organization committed to breastfeeding support and education.
The group was started in 1956 by seven mothers who dreamed of a day when all women who wanted to nurse
would be able to do so. Today the organization stands as the internationally recognized authority on
breastfeeding. LLL is a non-profit group comprised of mothers, families and health professionals from
around the world. There are over 3,000 LLL groups in 61 countries, led by mothers who volunteer their
time to help women breastfeed. Please join us and share the joys and special challenges of mothering.
What La Leche League of Newton Does
La Leche League of Newton offers phone consultations
for breastfeeding questions and mothers' groups for breastfeeding support and information. We also have an
extensive lending library of breastfeeding and parenting books. All breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women
interested in breastfeeding are welcome to come to our meetings or call our Leaders for breastfeeding help.
We sell slings and LLL books as fund-raisers. Some group leaders are also available for speaking engagements.
About Our Meetings
La Leche League meetings are open, informative discussions. The information is divided into topics
for a four-meeting series: Getting Started: Birth & Early Weeks, Nutrition and Weaning, The Benefits of Breastfeeding,
and Breastfeeding: Facts and Fallacies. The meetings address these topics as well as whatever questions or concerns
the mothers bring to the group. As no two series meetings are ever alike, many mothers continue to attend for months
beyond the first series. Meetings are led by women who joyfully and successfully nurse(d) their own children, and
subsequently have been accredited by La Leche League. All women who have an interest in breastfeeding are invited to
attend La Leche League meetings, and babies and children are always welcome. We invite you to attend our meetings in
any order. You do not have to be a member to attend the meetings.
Series Meeting Locations
Series meetings are in private homes in Newton. For information about the meetings and/or directions, please call
one of the leaders. Thank you to the hosts for welcoming us so graciously into your homes! Playground meetings are
being held at a playground called "The Cove" (also called Auburndale Park, W. Pine St., Newton). Please call a leader
if you have questions or need more information.

Location, Location, Location
If anyone is intrested in hosting our Series and/or Toddler meetings, please let a Leader know. We have been fortunate to have
members and Leaders who have graciously opened up their homes and hosted our meetings, but we don’t want to wear out our welcome!
Or, if you have an idea for a great meeting space, please let us know!
Call for Volunteers!
LLL of Newton has several “mother-sized” jobs that need filling, including help with fundraising, group activities
and snack coordination. Please talk to any Leader, or check the box on our sign-in sheet if you’re interested!
Looking for Gifts?
Think of LLL of Newton when you’re in the market for shower or new baby gifts, or just a supportive book for a
nursing mother in your life. The Group sells The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, Mothering Your Nursing Toddler,
and How Weaning Happens. None of these seem quite right? Then consider the gift of membership - use the form below
to make a thoughtful gift to a friend, and your gift will support nursing moms and babies in Newton, New England,
and around the world!
Take Advantage of our Library
You are welcome to browse in our library and borrow books on breastfeeding, parenting, nutrition, pregnancy,
childbirth, LLL's history, and other interesting topics. The library also contains audio tapes and pamphlets in
addition to books, all ready for your perusal. You may borrow materials for up to two months at a time, then return
them at a meeting, via mail, or by dropping them off at Linda's home. If you are a regular at one of the morning
meetings, and are interested helping us ensure that there is access to our books at every meeting, talk to a Leader.
We'd love to sign you up as a co-librarian!
Group Fund-raisers to Support LLL of Newton
Your membership dollars are split three ways between LLL of Newton, our Area(LLL of MA/RI/VT) and LLL International.
This allows you to help nursing families locally and around the world receive support from LLL. It doesn't allow us
to do all we would like to provide support on a local level, however. To raise additional funds, we sell baby slings,
and LLL publications The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, How Weaning Happens, Nursing Mother, Working
Mother, and Mothering Your Nursing Toddler. Please consider these for yourself, or for baby or shower
gifts for friends! Call a Leader to purchase these items in between meetings.

Staying in Touch
Would you like to stay in touch with other LLL Newton moms between meetings?
We've organized an email list to communicate with each other about playdates and outings. Sign up for our
email list at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LLL-toddler-moms/
(the list is called LLL toddler moms, but we welcome moms with children of any age).
Check out the LLL International website, at www.lalecheleague.org. The site
is a treasure trove of information, resources, and good old mother-to-mother support. Look for technical articles and
research, excerpts from our bi-monthly publication New Beginnings, conference information, and the LLLI catalog.
If you can't do without us between meetings, this might be a reasonable substitute!
